Hot Springs

Located a 40-minute scenic drive north of the motel, Ainsworth Hot Springs is set into the mountainside overlooking the vast expanse of Kootenay Lake and the Purcell Mountains.
These pools provide the perfect place to relax and enjoy some of West Kootenay's majestic scenery. Stay and Soak packages start for as little as $27.50 per person.

Golf
There are 3 golf courses within our immediate area and one definitely worth making a day trip to visit. Granite Point is less than a minute away by vehicle while Balfour and Castlegar golf clubs are approximately 30 minutes from our door. Kokanee Springs is Robert Trent Jones design and involves a breathtaking (free) ferry ride to the East Shore. Our Stay and Play package starts at $63.00 , which includes accommodations and a round of golf at Granite, Balfour or Castlegar. Guests will need to add $20 per person for the Kokanee option.

Kayak Touring: Nelson is an outdoor enthusiast's mecca. From the seat of your sea kayak, Kootenay Lake presents you with dramatic mountain scenery, glacial fed creeks, lush forests, abundant wildlife, rugged shorelines, and secluded beaches. Whoever said paradise had to be tropical has never visited the Kootenays. Our packages give you a choice of guided kayaking trips or combine our rooms with special pricing on kayak rentals.

Rafting: Daily whitewater adventures can be found on the Salmo River. The Salmo is a natural waterway that peaks in late June offering up to class IV excitement. Later, as the waters warm up, inflatable kayak journeys are the way to challenge this spectacular corridor.

Easy Trekking… a half day walk, AM or PM
For those that have limited time or are warming up their calf muscles, a half-day experience may be perfect for you! Learn about the unique wildlife and wildflowers. Discover the stories behind the scenery with your interpretive guide. Walk in a lush valley thick with variety or into grand alpine meadows with majestic mountain views.
Easy Trekking is a popular choice, appropriate for all ages and fitness levels, with up to four hours of walking on gentle trails. Guests of Alpine Motel receive a discounted rate of $40 per person.
Majestic Mountains…a full day hike
To understand the magic of the Selkirk and Purcell mountains, may we suggest you immerse yourself in a full day hike. Experience the scent, sounds and vistas of high elevation hikes. Climb through various ecosystems, learn about unique plant adaptations, feast on the diversity of flora and notice subtle signs of small and large mammals.
Majestic Mountains is a classic hike, ranging from five to eight hours, on a well established trail that meets your ability. As a guest of Alpine Motel, you receive 10% off our regular full day rate of $70 per person.
Walk while you talk… an interpretive focus
If you love learning while you walk, join a special theme hike. Depending on the location and season, you will learn the unique stories behind the biology and ecology linking plant to animal and elevation to critter. Join your interpreter for "Survival in the Alpine", "Relationships that Work" or "Bears of the Columbia Mountains" hiking on a trail that best suits your level and interests. Alpine Motel guests can book a guide for as little as $180 for your whole group.
Heli-Hiking… a lift to the alpine
For those that have a limited holiday in Nelson, we can offer you speedy access into the Purcells and Selkirk Mountains. Experience the incredible views of Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park or the steep granite mountains of the Valhalla Range. Enjoy being dropped off on a remote ridge, left to meander in meadows or along alpine ridges with your interpretive guide. Discover the wildlife and unique flowers that coexist in this high elevation zone. Trips offered start as low as $199 per person.
Women's Hiking Retreat… a girls weekend
Hike with the girls on all exclusive women's weekend, you design the level of challenge. Enjoy being with your friends spending the days hiking in the mountains, while at night enjoying the local hot springs, music or many gourmet restaurants in Nelson. Have fun, discover your physical strengths and take pleasure in a weekend just for you. Hike & Stay packages as low as $63 per day.
Fondue Views… experience all the senses
For those of you that live by chocolate, add fondue to your hike. On trail, take in the smell of pine or the distinct call of a red breasted Nuthatch. On an aesthetic viewpoint, dip some fruit into sweet chocolate while you bask in the Selkirk Mountains. Add to your hikes for $10 per person.

What you need to know…
Ø Groups include a maximum of 8 people for low ecological impact and your enjoyment.
Ø Youth are welcome, providing they can easily walk the distance. For children younger than eight, consider booking a private hike so we can walk their pace.
Ø A waiver must be signed prior to the walk or hike.
Ø Proper equipment is necessary for safety and comfort. Bring sturdy footwear with good grip, hat & gloves, sunscreen & sunhat, water & a snack or lunch and rain gear.
Ø Extra equipment such as poles, back packs, water bottles can be provided if necessary.
Ø Bring a snack and lunch or enjoy a locally made organic lunch. Please make requests for a packed lunch in advance.
Ø A French speaking guide can be provided on request.
Ø Well mannered and leashed dogs are permitted in some areas, contact us for more information.
Ø Self drive to the meeting spot or trail head is required, giving you greater flexibility in your holiday time and reducing costs to you. Some roads are in rough condition. Contact us if you require transportation to the trailhead.
Destination and Booking
Choose from a variety of trails, ask about our favorites. Be the first one to book a hike and you determine the level of challenge and location! You can join a trip that is already booked or arrange a trip of your own on another day that is available. You can also book a trip exclusively for you and your group. In order to ensure hikes are available, please book as far advance as possible. One day notice may not guarantee you a guide.
Sailing: Take an unforgettable trip on the beautiful Kootenay Lake. Charters are available for 1-4 people or larger groups with advanced notice.
Mountain Biking: Nelson is a mountain biking paradise. The Alpine Motel is so close to the entrance of many routes like the Stanley Loop or Kennville Mines that you can bike right from your room. Biking shuttles also pick up at the Alpine for those wishing to expand their horizons with other Nelson classics best suited for car drops.
Rock Climbing: Nelson has an indoor climbing gym and special rates are available for guests staying at the motel. Guided rock climbing and instructional programs are also available.

Fishing - Kokanee Creek and Kootenay Lake maintain considerable populations of various fish species, including kokanee, rainbow and cutthroat trout, dolly varden, burbot, and whitefish. Kootenay Lake supports record-sized rainbow trout, and the world's largest recorded kokanee - almost 10 pounds (4.5 kg) - was taken from the lake. Rainbow trout are plentiful in Lockhart Creek on the east side of the south arm of Kootenay Lake.

Ski & Stay
Being the closest motel to Whitewater and Apex, these packages are favourites among our repeat guests. Rates start from $55 per person and include private accommodations and day passes at Whitewater Resort. Packages are also available for Red Mountain and local cat skiing operations.
