Reel Adventures offers guided fishing charters all year round. World class fishing on Kootenay Lake and Columbia River.

Kootenay Lake.
While on board our 22ft Starcraft you will enjoy the scenery and some world class fishing. Nestled between the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges, Kootenay Lake runs over 80 miles and produces some of the largest rainbow trout in the world. The lake is also home to dolly varden (bull trout) and kokanee salmon. Rainbows up to 35Lbs (Canadian record), and dollies up to 29Lbs (another Canadian record) have been caught here. Also, kokanee salmon from 1 – 5Lbs can be caught. So no matter what time of year, there is always some kind of fish to pursue.
Our boat is fully covered and heated for your comfort. Our guides all have over 10yrs experience and will make your day enjoyable.
So, welcome aboard. Put your feet up, relax, and enjoy a wonderful experience on Kootenay Lake.

Columbia River.
The mighty Columbia River is home to many species of fish. We fish for rainbow trout, walleye, and kokanee. Rainbows average 1 – 5Lbs with some over 10Lbs being caught. This year, an amazing 23Lb rainbow was caught in our river. While this is rare for the river, now we know, they are in there. Walleye up to 15Lbs have been caught this year also. Fly fishing, trolling and spin casting are all techniques that we use on the river.

Ainsworth Hot Springs, a 40 minute drive from Nelson, BC. is set into the mountainside overlooking the vast expanse of Kootenay Lake and the Purcell Mountains. The hot steamy, odorless shower of mineralized water falls from the cave’s roof and forms a waist-deep pool, providing a rejuvenating natural steam bath. The main pool provides the perfect place to relax and enjoy some of West Kootenay ‘s majestic scenery.

The hot springs are heated naturally and vary in temperature between 40-42°C (104-114°F) in the Cave, 35-38°C (96-101°F) in the Pool, and 4-10°C (40-50°F) for the Cold Plunge. The caves are old mine tunnels carved out by miners attempting to increase the flow of hot water from the springs. Considered to be the best commercial hot springs in BC, they were probably first discovered by native Indians who came up to Kootenay Lake in the late summer to take advantage of the Kokanee Salmon run.

Since this timing coincided with the ripening of the huckleberry crop, it would be natural to assume that after spending the days clambering around the hills these people would welcome a soak in the hot springs . This idyllic lifestyle probably continued for decades until the Indians guided the first prospectors in the area.

Kokanee Creek and Kootenay Lake maintain considerable populations of fish, including the Kokanee salmon, rainbow and cutthroat trout, dolly varden, burbot, and whitefish. Kootenay Lake supports record-sized rainbow trout, and the world’s largest recorded kokanee – almost 10 pounds (4.5 kg) – was taken from the lake. Rainbow trout are also plentiful in Lockhart Creek on the east side of the south arm of Kootenay Lake.
